my previous post was in reply to Jason's comment that "he was going to keep his moth shut". I should have read the entire post befor commenting on Jason's behavior. Jason's comments are often quite Jerry Springer like, I was encouraged by his attempt to controll his behavior. I however will not be giving Jason the benifit of the doubt again.
Not trying to make light of of Maya's mothin-in-law housing problem. Next time I'll keep MY mouth shut.
Sorry if it seemed I made light of this situation.

Problems with Suburban / Schult Homes?
I hate my Schult too you aren't the only one
Jason DO NOT GO HERE, I am not asking for your input or your smart remarks or insulting comments.
We bought a Schult, shortly after we bought ours the factory closed down and Schult went Bankrupt.
We did include the state in on our ordeal and they order that even under Bankruptcy Schult has to deal with our issues, in which prefferred housing is doing the work.
We have been fighting every since we moved in our new home 1 yr and 2 mos ago to get our problems resolved.
We placed our home on a 7 inch FULL slab, not runners, not pads, not dirt but 7 inch thick cement with 3000 PSI ratings.
The problems with our house range from the marriage lines seperating which was deemed the installers responsibility, to sheet rock cracks, to Hardi Board panels cracking, bulging, nail holes in siding bulging out.
All of these things have a 5 year warranty which are not being honored by Schult.
I know how you feel and I know the fight that you are going through.
As far as your salesman letting the cat out of the bag about your home falling in transport, GET A LAWYER, it is the only thing that you will be able to do at that point about that situation, which MAY be the cause of some of the other problems your relative is having. An Attorney will sequesture the name and location of the mover and seek damages from them, he will also seek what ever he or she can from the dealer for not including this bit of info when you recieved your home.
Don't give up your fight, that is what they are expecting you to do, they think you will just go away, PROVE THEM WRONG!

C Hanagriff if you had it to do all over again would you still by a manufactured house?Or would you spend the extra money to have a real house built?
Re: I hate my Schult too you aren't the only one
Jason,
the advent of the internet means that if you can figure out how to search for what you are looking for, you can find it. Right now, I have a dilemma. We were planning on putting up a Burlington Modular on the piece of property that we would eventually buy. The property that we found is, unfortunately, imperfect and we need to build a split level. I personally don't like how the Burlington splits look. I truly believe, after spending more hours than I want to think about, that Burlington will build a home that will LAST. I posted recently about a 15 year old Burlington manufactured home for sale on a nice lot, in a nice town for $210,000. About what other, similar homes go for in the area. It looked like new. So I may have to now find a builder that I can trust to build a home that will last. I have heard so many horror stories about bad builders that I am SCARED. If I bought a Burlington, it would be a known quantity....Around here if you say, "I'm getting a manufactured home" people just don't know what to say....then you say, "It's a Burlington..." then they say..."Oh yeah, they're the BEST!" I'm sure in other parts of the country, other companies have the same reputation. The truth is, after exhaustive research, a stick-built home (or in your term, a "real house") is NOT my first choice. If I can get the exterior I want from Burlington, I will be one happy woman! We make a very nice living and qualified for a $300,000 house, but it's not a matter of money...it's about KNOWING what you are getting for your money.

Re: I hate my Schult too you aren't the only one
C Hanagriff,
I'm sorry to read about the troubles you've had / are having with Schult Homes! I had no idea they went bankrupt, and I'm wondering if my mom-in-law even knows! I'm anxious to get together with her today to discuss some more options. I've printed your post along with a couple of others to bring along with me.
So, thank you. You've enlightened me with new information and I'm anxious to get more things started, because though she has filed the complaint with the state, the amount of "processing time" will probably keep us waiting a bit.
Thanks again for replying, and I truly hope things are going more smoothly for you. I understand the frustration. I will definitely post any updates, and I look forward to reading more from you as well.
Bright Blessings,
Maya

Re: I hate my Schult too you aren't the only one
Hi Mac,
Thanks so much for replying. I'm going to meet with my mother-in-law today and I've printed your post, along with a couple of others, for her.
I also asked my husband to read your post, and per your recommendation, he's going to construct a small shield for the top flue pipe. That will definitely brighten her spirits.
As for her "settling" issues, she's mentioned on several occasions that something was not right with her footings. I'm not sure what she has her house sitting on now, I only know she's in a developing mobile home community, and I'm assuming she has it set in compliance to their standards?
It IS a shame that it's come to this point. She has done everything within her limits to keep this between herself and Schult / Suburban.
THANKS AGAIN for taking the time to reply, you've helped a great deal! I will definitely let you know if your tip resolves her problem with the pilot light, and I'll post any updates.
Bright Blessings,
Maya
