Hi,
I'm trying to uncover information relative to the kind of exterior siding that would have been used on a 1980 Golden West Mobile Home. [At that time, the hdqtrs of the builder was 1308 E Wakeham, Santa Ana, CA]
I want to know if GW would have used Masonite.
I've been unable to locate the current headquarters of what was once: GoldenWest Mobile Homes, Inc. I guess it's history.
Does anyone know concerning the Masonite? There is a class action suit that will enable owners of homes with Masonite siding between 1980 & 1989 to collect damages, i.e, buckling, rot, etc.
Thanks,
James Combs

Re: (older) GW and Masonite
There are class action suits for many brands of hardboard siding...You might want to go to www.mobilehomerepair.com and read his "lawsuit" page..
There are firms out there companies that will take your siding and help you with the claims...They will determine what manufacturer you have and what brand to see if you qualify..Most legitimate companies like this do this on a percentage of the claim basis...I would be wary of those that charge upfront fees...
By the way...Golden West is now owned by Oakwood Homes...but I doubt they would be much help for a home this age...

James,
Back in the 70's, 80's and into the 90's Goldenwest was a very popular home. They were sold left and right in the western states. They had a factory in Phoenix, AZ and Sacramento, Riverside, Dixon, into Albany, Oregon. GoldenWest had over 12 factories in the Western states mainly in California. The type of siding that was used was mainly by Georgia Pacific hardboard siding and Kaibab of Phoenix, Arizona, which went out of business. I strongly think if you want to match the exterior siding, you won't find any product that will match it. I worked for Goldenwest in the 70's and 80's so I am very familiar with the homes.
