New MFG Home
New MFG Home
I bought a Commodore Brookwood Model and have been in it six months now. I really like the house. It's 2077 sq ft with a full basement. I was my own general contractor, which was a VERY interesting experience. Everything has gone well, but a couple of 'things' have cropped up. I had four phone outlets put in and they all worked EXCEPT for one. Commodore told the sales office that it would be ok for me to use my electrician to hook up the phone. When he went to hook it up, he couldn't find the wire. It turns out that jack looks like it was wired UP instead of DOWN and across the belly of the house. So it looks like he will have to run another wire........IF he ever comes back to do that GRRRRR. The OTHER irritating thing has been the whirlpool tub. I used it only 3 times. One day as I was at the bathroom sink, I happened to look over at the tub and noticed a very thin black line. I thought it was a bug or hair. So I got a tissue to pick it up. When I lifted the tissue, it was still there. So I wet the tissue a little and tried to pick it up again. But it wouldn't come up. I lifted the tissue and there was a BIG hole. The vinyl had cracked and when I rubbed to get the 'bug' off the VINYL came off! I have reported this to the sales office (the salesman that I have dealt with all this time) and he has told me he called Commodore, but his calls haven't been returned. I have called him THREE times and sent a letter. He has responded to all of my calls and letter and has contacted Commodore each time (he tells me anyway and I have no reason to doubt him). I'm getting, no, I AM, VERY FRUSTRATED! I don't want to use the tub for fear of doing more damage to the vinyl. I asked the salesman for the number of the tub company to contact them directly, but he said it has to go thru Commodore. So, where do I go from here? I told him my next contact would be thru my lawyer. Up to now, I have been satisfied with the company, but this is SOO irritating.
Re: New MFG Home
There wouldn't be some sort of protective covering on it, that's supposed to be peeled off, would there? The way some electronic equipment comes with a plastic covering to protect display windows from scratches? Was this stuff clear?
Re: New MFG Home
I think Mac is correct...there often is a plastic covering on applainces and fixtures that need to be removed...much like the stuff on the stove and frig..
If the fiberglass has a hole in it..then you do have a problem....
Open yur owners manual and find the contact number of the plant..call them directly..

Re: New MFG Home
No, unfortunately it's not a plastic covering. It's the VINYL, I guess the tub is made of fiberglass, come to think of it. I didn't get a manual with the tubs. There was only an installation and care sheet (one sheet, both sides). No phone number or address on it. Just says Clarion, the brand name. You can see the metal frame? underneath the fiberglass coating. I haven't used it because I am afraid of water getting in between the fiberglass and metal underneath. I explained all of this to the salesman and asked him for the tub manufacturer's number. He said he had to go through the plant where the house was manufactured in Clarion, PA. I WOULD rather deal directly with the tub manufacturer. I MIGHT get a response then. Does this happen in tubs? This is NEW to me. Of course, I've always had the old fashioned enamel tubs and this never happened in them. I'm the only one in the house and I never dropped anything in it. So, it has to be some defect in the fiberglass.
Re: New MFG Home
The dealership can and should provide you with Commodore's phone number. Although most dealers will act on your behalf to correct warranty issues, sometimes it takes a call from the homeowner. There should be no reason for the sales persons you are dealing with not to give you a number to call.
