Jane,

I am also in Northern Calif. (Lake County) and it is my understanding that Karsten is a much better built home than Skyline. However, a number of my neighbors have Skyline homes and are quite happy with them. My best friend lives in a Karsten (I have a Silvercrest) and it is very nice. The one thing that did surprise me was the water lines underneath the sink come straight out the floor with shutoff valves in the middle of the line. I had expected them to be like mine, lines attached to shutoff valves in the back wall of the cabinet.

I have a Karsten triplewide from the Stayton, OR plant, purchased last December. I believe they did quite a nice job. I was able to visit the plant while mine was being built, and ask any questions and comment.

We purchased a Skyline DW that was built in the San Jucinto plant. August will be two full years in the home and we love it. No real problems have cropped up, just the normal small problems that happen to any home. Both Karsten and Skyline are good choices. Make sure you specify Plywood or OSB floors. Any type of partical board will cause problems if it ever gets wet. Good Luck,
Bill W.

Karsten Homes is far superior to many MHs. Including the other you mentioned.

I would like to know why you think they(karsten) is by far the superior home. I am still shopping between the two so I would like all the facts possible. Thanks J

Do you mean you like the way the water lines are or not. I would like to know what you have found to be the best way for the water lines since you have experience with 3 different ones. Thank you. j

Jane,

I have to disagree with Richard in that I don't think Karsten is a far superior home, but a better built home out of the factory. Skyline builds some very good homes but a number of upgrades are needed to get it up to the level of a Karsten. Also, my understanding from someone that does know about MHs, is that the three top homes in California are Karsten, Silvercrest, and Fuqua. I do know in the case of Silvercrest that they build a very low end home and that one may not be as good as a Skyline.

I prefer the water line setup in my home. It is just like a stick built house. I have metal shutoff valves coming out of the back wall and the water lines are not in the way of storage on the bottom shelf.
