Best replacement furnace?
Best replacement furnace?
My husband and I purchased our MH in July of '04 and we already have to replace our furnace. We currently have a Nordyne Interthern (M3RL 90+ Downflow Condensing Furnace) that has given us nothing but problems and repeated visits by a furnace repairman. The company that sold us the home is going to give us money toward a better furnace but that's where we need advice. Can anyone recommend a specific furnace or manufacturer? We want to keep the 90+ aspect and it has to be A/C compatible since we have central air that is hooked up to the furnace. I'd appreciate any advice you may have.
Re: Best replacement furnace?
Your complaints are quite common, even though this is the most popular 90+furnace for manufactured homes it is notoriously unreliable.
Nordyne and Coleman are the only 2 widely available furnaces manufacturers approved for use in manufactured homes.
I have found the colemans to be more reliable. The trouble is though, that the coleman is larger and probably won't fit in your existing furnace closet. You would have to make the furnace closet larger to fit the coleman furnace in. Depending on the location of the furnace, this may not be a problem.
The reason the Nordyne is popular is that it fits in the same closet as a lower efficiency furnace which makes it easier for the manufacturer of the home to offer both furnaces. And Nordynes usually cost them less although for replacement you can usually get about the same price on the coleman.
You need to stay with a furnace approved for manufactured homes, and no reputable hvac company will install one in your home that isn't hud approved.
