Dear Mr Bonney:
Before I can sell my mobile home, the park owners tell me I must install tie-downs. Is that a job I should leave to professionals? Or can a relatively handy guy who has never done that kind of work before get it right?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Joe Donohue
tie downs
Re: tie downs
This is addressed in detail in the installation manual provided with the home. My question would be why the home does not have the proper protection already in place. Installation of the tie downs, is not a difficult task, however, if it is not done correctly, there may in fact be no protection.
Re: tie downs
Most used homes have no installation manual, much less the paper data stickers they were orignally equipped with.Secondly many areas of the country at one point or another did not require tie downs, therefore they were never installed.(much like solid footers)Tie downs are usually installed about every 6 to 8 feet around the perimeter and interior of the home.It is also a good idea to have at least 2 or more depending on the size of the home going around(thru) the home and anchored on either side.
Yes you could do it yourself if you are handy but it would be a good idea to find some info on the web first on how to do it correctly.

Re: tie downs
Bill is right. My 30-year-old Buddie was grandfathered from tiedown requirements. Thank you both for your replies.
