Removing Dormer?

I have a 2000 Horton Dynasty 24' x 48' and would like to remove the dormer. From the "fake" dormers with windows I have seen before putting them on a MH roof, they just look like wood framing with shingles. Does anyone know of any problems in removing the dormer, roofing over the area, and adding fascia board? Thanks! Mark

An experienced roofer should be able to handle this with little problem. Most factorys put the dormer on after the roof is in place... so I would expect to find roof decking under the dormer... have you done this before ??

Thanks for your answer David! I have done roofing and replacement of gutters and fascia board on a regular house, so I don't think I would have any problems tackling the removal of the dormer on my MH.

I just ran across this website yesterday and it has LOADS of EXCELLENT information that I can use! I have lots of questions, so if I can't find them in a search on this website, I will post them.

Thanks for providing such a great website on MHs!!!

Mark

The one issue you may have is that the shingle rows may not match once you remove the dormer. Some manufacturers do a great job of making sure the rows are consistent, some don't. If the dormer doesn't rise all the way to the ridge, you can easily see if the rows match. Or you can measure. If the rows don't match, you will likely have to shingle the front half of the house to make it look right.
