I have a 1983 single wide that has that has 2 add on's . I have gutted it and rebuilt it from the inside and now going to the out side of the home . I would like to put a pitch and gable on the home with one dormer , I would like to know if there is anyone out there that has done this before ? I would like to know the doe's and dont's of doing this .
I will be doing this after I take the old metal sidding off and replacing it with new wood sidding , so while the front portch and carport are off the home I will go to the roof build it .
So please let me know if you have done this, and any tips you may have for this job I am about to do .

What you want to do is not just possible but has been done many times. The specific how-to-dos depend on several factors, such as the framing of the wall system and the support offered by the foundation system.

The weight of the roof has to be transferred to the exterior walls and then down to the foundation. You need to consult with an experienced building contractor or an engineer to be assured that your new roof system will be supported correctly.

In the past when I have replaced an old bowed roof with a peaked roof we have replaced the old bow roof trusses with new triangular trusses. Then sheeted over the trusses with plywood and installed a traditional shingled roof system.

The truss member gauge and truss spacing need to be calculated along with the weight transmission through to the ground to be sure you dont over stress the existing walls, frame or foundation. You might find that you need to beef up the foundation system to handle the additional weight.
