Exterior door replacement

I wish to expand front door on my 88 manuf. home to 36 x 80 vs. current 32x76.

Concern is on the header. I have 2x6 walls nailed to 1x6' top plate running length of the home. I would have room to add 2x6 header and attach to the 1x6. Would this be sufficient header? (currently have a 2x6 running length of shorter door with 2x6 legs attached to 1x6 top plate.

thanks

Are you talking about putting the 2x6 on edge with the 6 inch face running horizontal? parallel to the face of the door?

The 2x6 would parallel to the top plate so I would use 1 2x6 for the entire header, not 3 running perpendicular to the top plate. In looking at my current door, that is what is used as well for the 32" space.

thanks

I can get you a cut down door and storm door, so you do not need to do all that work.
