I am a newbie and this is my first post.
Moved into first ever manufactured home a few months ago and it has a very annoying problem. Noisy heat ducts. Home is a 1995 Golden West super good cents with forced air electric heat. The underfloor heat ducts are rectangular ducts that appear to be aluminum. Two ducts run the length of house - one under each side of double wide.
Shortly after the heater starts to run- cracking and popping noises start throughout the house. And for a time after the heater shuts off - the cracking and popping noises continue. I am assuming the cracking and popping noises are due to expansion upon heating and then contraction on cooling of the aluminum heat duct and possibly a portion of the subfloor (?) the ducts are attached to.
Is there any remedy to stop the cracking and popping short of replacing the ducts with a different material?? Since this is a super good cents home the underside has thick insulation encasing the ducts with a membrane holding up the insulation. Biggest concern I have with replacing the existing ducting and/or way it is attached to subfloor- is getting acceptable job done putting back the insulation and repairing the membrane.
Any help out there for me??
Thanks!
Ron

Re: Remedy for noisy heat ducts?
Hi, we have the same problem, noise that my husband was postive came from the stall shower in our master bathroom & he was ready to call a plumber till I made him realize it only made the sound at night when the heat came on....ours sounds more like a drip, as opposed to a cracking sound. Will be watching for the technical answer also....

Re: Remedy for noisy heat ducts?
I too have this problem ....seems to be under the floor in the master bedroom not even where the heat duct is. I have gas, forced air and the furnace also makes a loud pop just after the heating stops, and around the time the blower shuts off. I make a game of counting the number of pops it makes after the furnace shuts off. I usually count around 90. I'm getting used to it, but am curious since other owners in my park do not have the same problem.
Re: Remedy for noisy heat ducts?
I have this sound once when the heater turns on, once when it turns off. Multi-section with aluminum ductwork.
