tape/texture over prewallpapered board

Post by Kevin » Thu Jan 12, 2006 9:51 pm

I want to tape and texture my older, manufactured home. It has the prepapered wallboard. I have had the inside walls drywalled. But the outside walls are 1/2" drywalled and prepapered. Do I need to redrywall over this or will the texture stay on the wallpapered board?

Thank you,

Kevin

Kevin,

We did the same thing we our home. No need to redrywall if you prime the walls. We primed with Kilz -- which is one of the best around.

Good luck!

Check out the video available in the book store called Painting and Texturing Paneled Walls
By following the steps in this 20 minute video, your paneled walls will look darn near like textured sheetrock. Works on both wood paneling and vinyl-covered paneling or sheetrock. The process can be completed without having to rent any sprayers or other tools. If you can paint, you can very easily do the steps in this video. If your expecting a high-dollar video with actors that wear makeup and every word smoothly rehearsed, these videos aren't for you. However, if your expecting a good-quality video that features a real contractor clearly showing you how to do the job, then these videos are for you, so Click Here Now

Me and my husband who is a drywall finisher rip off the wall paper that is on the drywall on the excisting wall board and scim coated and taped where the strips were and that rolled mud and textured with a texturing brush it turned out really nice. I hate the fact that the wall baord that they put in the manufactured home these day you can not paint over them, so to save money do what we did.

Good Luck

This isn't really a reply but I have been trying to find information on doing the walls in my mobile home as well. It is a 1993 with the wallpapered board walls.....Will that Kilz work for any year, make or model? I am a single mother so my budget is limited.

Does anybody know if it is possible to tape where the boards are covering the joints in the wall. We would like to remove the boards and tape the joints. We have Vinal cover sheetrock.
