installing MH underpinning/skirting
installing MH underpinning/skirting
I need to install vinyl underpinning around my 14x60 MH. Can anyone give me a range of about how much it would cost to hire someone to do it, and, about how much the supplies would cost to do it myself and how hard it is. Please help! Winter is here and it's such a pain to drain the water to keep the pipes from freezing.
Re: installing MH underpinning/skirting
I wonder what water you are draining???
Your water supply inlet can be kept from freezing with a heat tape. Your drain lines should not freeze either.
A MH does not require skirting to keep plumbing from freezing, maybe something is wrong.
Anyway, skirting is pretty easy to install and a 14 X 60 home is pretty small. you need to know how high the home is off the ground to estimate how much you need to buy. Simple instructions are found on every box of skirting,
Go to the Home Depot or lowes and read the box!

Re: installing MH underpinning/skirting
We are not there all the time, so when we are there, we leave the faucets dripping overnight. When we will be gone for long periods, we drain the water out of the house from the outside. (We have a well.) Our lines have frozen one time already so that's why we've started draining the house. Heat tape did not help.

Oh, and we also are paying insurance thru the mortgage company and it's a lot more expensive, so to get cheaper insurance elsewhere we've been told we have to have underpinning because it's too much of a liability for them if the pipes burst.
Re: installing MH underpinning/skirting
Vinyl underpinning (skirting) is the cheapest way to go but it has a poor track record. It is very light weight and after time can crack and break. If a weed whacker touches vinyl it ruins it. Most vinyl skirting needs repair or replacement in the first five years. Underpin your home with a permanent solution. The most substantial skirting system around is System-1 skirting by Hoffman Concrete. System-1 is what skirting should be- 100% solid concrete. System-1 is not an imitation or a look alike – it is the original concrete skirting system that resists the elements from the summer heat of Texas to the harsh winters of Minnesota. System-1 is built to last and is designed to stay put for years of dependable service.
