Vapor Barrier

I'm in the process of buying a 2005 Double Wide in S. Florida. After having the unit inspected there was minor damage from Hurricane Wilma. Most of the damage came from the neighbors attached carport/screen room.

One of the issues the inspector had was concerning the vapor barrier which had several tears. They said it would be taped up with this special barrier tape and should be fine. As of this weekend I inspected the repairs and the tape is falling off.

I feel that this is important part of the house and should be intact. Is it too much to require that they replace this barrier?

Your comments are appreciated.

It is a big job to completely replace it, but there are good tapes to repair it. See the parts section of this website, or perhaps Mark will chime in on it. An alternative might be that they could replace sections, or overlap sections.

Please don't replace it!!! you will end up with a mess.
A product called Flex-mend is really good.
Also, it is not a vapor barrier, it is bottom board. a vapor barrier lays on the ground. A bottom board protects the floor insulation.

another trick I have used is spray adhesive applied to a section of new material and sprayed to bottom material but use caution when doing this under home gloves and face protection a must
