laminated flooring

Post by barbara » Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:57 pm

I am reading about a company called Balterio laminated flooring and
they have a laminated floor with attached subfloor in some of there
particular styles. The benefits they state are noise reduction, reduced
sound trnsfr and suited for underfloor heating. They suggest that you
should install dampscreen before installing the laminated floor.
My question is when i go to purchase my MH, should my home
come with out any floor covering ( i am choosing OSB) and have
the service guys of Balterio or contractors install the laminate?

Most manufacturers will not sell a home without floor coverings. Might possibly even be a HUD code that says that.

I really like the idea of underfloor heating, but not too thrilled about it being attached to the subfloor. One of the benefits of most laminate floors as that it floated, so when your home shifts and moves with the season, your floor is unaffected.

I have a friend that did the samething your doing. Laminate flooring can be put over lenoelium. He had his home done with the least expensive flooring he could and just had the laminate installed on top. Since the laminate is a floating floor it doesn't get permantly fastend to the sub-floor, with no holes the lenoelium works as a good water barrier protecting your sub-floor.

My place came without its carpet and pad laid - a subcontractor came out to place it later. I would have the whole house done in linoleum (very first thing that would go down when built) as a water barrier also. Greg - outstanding idea!

Is there any preference in the way laminate is laid on an old mobile home? That is, is there any advantage or disadvantage to laying it parallel or perpendicular to the marriage line?

Thanks!

The proper way to lay laminate is to go according to your windows. You want the light to run along the long seam lines, it gives a better appearance. If the light shines right on the long seam lines it will show more shadowing taking away from the realistic look.

When installing laminate in double wide, how should you handle the area where the 2 halves come together?? We will be selling the home to be moved in the future... thanks, KIM
