We just purchased a 1970 Fleetwood Festival 24 x 48 and we want to rigidize it - install sheetrock, laminate flooring, double-pane windows. A new kitchen is also in the plans. I understand that weight is an issue with these older homes, but is there something we can do to the foundation to obviate these issues?
We also plan on replacing the side LR window with a slider or patio door. It's 5' wide and it'd be nice to increase it to 6'. Are there any issues to doing this that would be substantially different than doing it in a real house (ie, supporting the opening and adding a new header)?
Since we live in quake-prone Northern California, shear and a solid foundation are important considerations.
Thanks for any help!

remodels on a pre-HUD unit
Re: remodels on a pre-HUD unit
What's the foundation/fame like now? Do you have any outriggers? Outriggers are basically metal extensions from the I-beam. If you have outriggers, how far apart are they?

We're going down to visit it today and will look at the foundation. Thanks.
