We own a 96 champian mobile home that needs the shingles replaced, was thinking of just adding another layer. We hear yes you can and no you can't cause the rafters are not like a regular home. Please help me I don't know where else to turn. Thankyou trina

These days most roofers remove the old layer of shingles before installing a new layer. Anymore that's common practice even on stick-built homes. Besides, with the old layer removed, you can inspect and repair any roof sheathing damage.

Also, the roof trusses are designed for a dead load of 8 lbs per square foot, a second layer will exceed that dead load maximum.
