sliding door
sliding door
I was thinking of trying to add a sliding patio door to an area where i have two windows side by side. I have seen it done. I don't know if this will require extensive reframing or or if perhaps the two windows share a common header and the door would just slide in where the windows come out. the size would be right. Does anybody know how these things are built? I dont really want to tear out walls to check out framing if it can't be done easily. Its a 2000 doublewide
Re: sliding door
Most likely, the two windows will have a common header if they (windows) are touching (mulled together). If they have a stud between them, them they SHOULD have separate headers. You can replace them with a patiio door, but it will require relocation of electricity, and insuring that the door header will be one piece. Any framer or carpenter can install the door, but a WINDOW / DOOR INSTALLER will make sure it is done correctly to avoid warranty issues. The rough opening (RO) is the most important thing in a window installation - if the RO ain't right - nothing will be right. Wood or vinyl siding? Textured drywall or printed panel? What manufacturer of home? You can get a plansheet from the manufacturer and it will show just how the area was built (or SHOULD have been built!).
