ceiling crack under dormer

Post by ScottMan » Wed Mar 02, 2005 9:16 am

I am wondering if this problem is related to the dormer above the living room. We had a ceiling crack that had been repaired when the home was under warrenty. It was straight down from the ridge of the dormer at the roof of the house. About 9 mo ago a buckle started on the floor straight down from that. It runs from the marriage line to the front door. It rises up about an inch or so and is about 2 feet wide. I also noticed hairline ceiling cracks about 10 feet from the old crack and another 10 feet from that. All under our roof dormer. The home is otherwise level and all piers are supporting. I don't know if its related to the dormer, but its a coincidence they're all under it. Probably nothing to be concerned about it but wanted to know if others have run into that. I have a newer Skyline dw.

Do you have a porch or deck attached to the front of the home? This can cause some problems if the two aren't both on a solid footer.I would also check to see if the piers under the front door aren't either missing, shimmed to high or not carrying any load(to low) from the front door entry area.
