Rain coming in door

Hello.

I have a 2001 manufactured home. The main door has no awning over it. When vertical rain hits it soaks the carpeting inside. Should an awning have been installed initially? Is there any type of device that I can attach to the bottom portion of the door to deflect water outside the threshhold?

Thanks,

Linda

Linda, a very common problem with MH's. There are aluminum drip caps that are about 5 inches wide that can be installed over the door that should solve the problem. Look in the parts store here on the site. If none are listed, go to www.mhrv.com and I know they have them as I bought a pair from them. It solved my problem. Thats assuming that its not leaking other than the top of the door. Tom

Tom,

Thanks so much for your quick reply!

I don't think the rain is coming in at the top of the door, but I was able to find the drip caps.

The rain is either vertically hitting the door about 1/2 way down, or it is splashing up from outside the threshold. The rubber thinging on the bottom of the door looks like it should keep the water out, but it's getting in somehow.

I also do not have any rain gutters on the overhang above the door and wonder if that is what is splashing up? Are homes supposed to have gutters over doors?

I appreciate your help!

THANKS!

Linda

A storm door would go much farther in stopping the rain than any gutter or drip edge, and you get the added benefit of the door itself. I'm suprised you don't have one, I can't recall having ever seen a mobile without a storm door.

Mark,

Thanks for the input. I had the Park Mgr take a look and he feels the weather strip on the bottom outside of the door was not touching the threshold and air was sucking the water in. I'm going to replace the strip and hope that will do the trick.

I appreciate the other options provided. Thanks.

Linda

Check the door for plumb and square. The weather new strip may fix the problem for a while, but it will probably return. Best bet is to get a storm door!
