I have lived in a 1974 24 x 30 in Illinois for 12 years now. I have done a majority of my own repairs so I have an idea of problem areas in older MH, like particle board floors and windows that flow about as much air open or closed! Anyway, I have been thinking about getting a 14 X 70 single that is in bad shape and tearing it down to the frame and basically building a new MH. I am not Mr. construction but I have the time and ability to learn. Please throw out some ideas, opinions, etc. For instance what should I look for in a frame that will support the weight of sheathed walls, trusses etc. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

In my opinion, its not cost effective. Can it be done yes. What you need to do before attempting this is to do the math, including your time and labor. Frames will be basically the same in all models, may vary as they get newer. You may find out, its more cost effective to purchase a repo or used model needing minor repairs. There are really no instructions for the construction end of it, you would basically be on your own. Tom

I can't say I've ever seen a 24x30. With a 14x70, your only gaining a little over 200 square feet assuming your hallways are minimal in the 14x70. Why not just continue to fix-up the home you have? Otherwise add-up your materials to rebuild the home like you say, and I bet you'll think otherwise.

You gotta see my repair manual!
