Adding on to 1998 Manufactured

Post by Mikki » Sat Nov 13, 2004 1:46 pm

My fiance and I are in a bind. We have tried (unsucessfully) to get re-financing or trade in his 1998 singlewide 750 square foot home. There are 5 of us living here full time, and his daughter never gets to stay over anymore because we're so crowded. We live in a park and have received a brochure from a local M.H. contractor claiming he can add 'cabana' rooms that can be anything we need them to be.

My questions - can this really be done? I was under the impression that there was really no option to add-on.

Our park management said that our restriction is that we can only cover 80% of our lot with house, but that the parking area can count as the 20% 'open' space.

Thanks in advance for the help!

My recommendation is if you want to do this, have it done by a professional contractor. Its not something that I recommend a weekend warrior attempt. Also if your renting the lot and you want to sell or have to move once this is done, it becomes alot more complicated. I am very surprised a park would even allow you to do this. Tom

That's exactly why I was skeptical about the brochure - I would prefer to just trade this one up and have a larger home put on this space. The management *may* even be willing to allow a 2-story...

Thanks for your help!
