Sun room

Post by Linda » Wed Oct 06, 2004 11:46 am

I am purchasing a 1988 Kaufman mobile home with an attached sunroom (part of original construction, not an add-on). I would like to use this as a year round room. Is there an easy way to determine the amount of existing insulation in the walls and ceiling without destroying the existing drywall or paneling? I also want to replace the single pane windows with dual pane. Can I use any window supplier, or do mobile homes require a special type of window.

Also, speaking of windows, several of the window locks are broken and/or non functional. They appear to be some type of vinyl. Can these be replaced with conventional metal locks? These are single hung rather than sliders.

Finally, I have read most of the discussions posted over the past several months and haven't noticed any discussion of wallpapering over the printed paneling, though I appreciated the advice on painting. Can I just paper over the existing paneling? How should I prep the walls?

Thanks in advance - this is a great forum. Just discovered it this morning.

I can honestly say Ive never seen an MH with a manufacturer built sun room. Doesnt mean they dont exist, Ive just never seen one.

Mh windows differ only in size. Any window company could manufacturer what you need.

If you are talking about the locks that slide in and out and are positioned at the bottom of the window, you can find those type at most MH parts stores. Look in your phone book yellow pages under manufactured homes/parts/service. They may also be available here on the site parts store, link is on the top of this page. Tom
