Dragging front door

Post by John » Thu Aug 12, 2004 7:49 pm

My front door is dragging and won't even close unless I slam it shut. I have noticed that it gets much worse in the summer. The front door faces the sun. I have a feeling that the afternoon heat may be causing it to "warp." What repair options are there?

The best solution to fix the door is probably to adjust the level of the home in that area. Most likely the adjustment you need to do is to lower the home on the hinge side. Find the nearest block along the frame to do this. You may have to add some other blocks along the frame, or put blocks directly underneath the door.

Mark,
I appreciate the thought, but I've checked the level of the front door area and everything appears to be level. On the base of the door are two hex bolts. Only one is dragging. I can tell this because of the scrape that it has left along the threshold. It is tightened all the way. Is it possible for the hinges to wear? If they need to be replaced how do I remove them?

Thanks.

John, unless you use a water level over the whole frame, you cant tell if its properly level. Is this what you did? Also as Mark suggested, many times these are areas that set up companies fail to add sufficient blocking, so that may be your best solution to do this. It is not an uncommon problem with MH's. Tom
