exterior water damage around windows

Post by stephanie » Tue Aug 03, 2004 10:08 pm

Hello, I was at my mothers yesterday when I noticed a couple places around her windows looked like they had some water damage. And stupid me goes up to check it out and point it out to her (before it gets real bad). When I barely pushed on the exterior wall under the window it just caved in,.. crumbling. It is about hte size of your palm. I felt really bad and even worse when my mother said "it'll rot off before he gets around to fixxing it". Speaking of her husband. I would really like to help her fix it ourselves. Any tips, comments, or suggestions??? The exterior window trim looks like a small 2x4, nothing fancy to fix there. But what about the rest of hte damaged wall under the window trim??

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

What type of siding are we talking about? The problem here is, if the siding is weak in that area, is it bad it others too? The proper way to go about this would be to remove the siding around the windows because I suspect there is internal damage also to the window frame. But if the siding is rotton, that will have to be replaced also. Im afraid you have a major repair on your hands here. Tom

Since it is a repo, your problem probably is with the particleboard. The home undoubtedly leaked a little (or a lot) through the plastic at the marriage line before it was set up.
