doors that won't stay open

Post by Bobbi » Sun Jul 25, 2004 1:56 pm

We have just purchased a 1974 mobile which has two doors (to two bedrooms) that won't stay open, they just swing slowly closed again. Other doors in the home seem fine.

We have something propped against them to keep them open, but that's pretty unsightly.

Is this a huge problem? Any advice from anyone?

Thanks very much.

That is a symptom of the home not being level. Are these doors at one end of the home? Tom

Thanks for replying, Tom.

The doors are at opposite ends of the home, and in between there is a bathroom whose door stays open, although it does face at a right angle to the others.

Bobbi here is an article on leveling symptoms. Doors are usually a sure sign your out of level. The solution is to contact a MH repairman to have it re leveled. http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/article1.htm

First check to see if the doors are not loose at the hinges. Especially in homes with children, those flimsy hinges tend to bend or the screws work loose. Shake the door up and down and you'll be able to tell. If all is tight, a releveling may be in order.

Here's a good source on how to do your own releveling (or use the info to check the releveling yourself and make sure the guy you hire does it right!)
