We have just purchase a 2000 Double wide home, while walking thru it today, I noticed it had some mold or mildew spots in bathrooms on the ceiling.
They seem fresh I could wipe them away with my finger. What could be causing this ? Should I be alarmed ? How can I fix it ? The spots are the size of a quarter, about 5 spots.
Worried

Do the bathrooms have fans? Maybe it's as simple as moisture from the showers not escaping. Otherwise I'd probably insist on having the home professionally inspected if you decide to enter into an agreement to buy the home.

We did buy the home, and no one has been living in the home for about 5 or 6 months. The air conditioner was running all but a few days. The spots are fresh and can be wipe off with your finger. I also noticed them in the bedroom.
We don't see any water marks on ceiling anyway from rain or roof damage.
How can you get into area between, how are they made ? how much space between the ceiling and roof ? Houses have attics, what do they have ?
Is there insulation in there ? any suggestions i think we will get an inspection too.
They were not there before the closing on the home and now they are, just in a weeks time.
thanks

If the previous tenants ran the shower without the vents the mold could be embedded in the walls. It may just take some Zinsser primer with mold protection built in to seal it out. One question, does this area seem freshly painted? Im not sure I would go to all the trouble of tearing out the ceiling, particularly if you dont see any water marks from roof leaks. Try the primer and paint first, it will be alot cheaper. Tom
