carport roof

I am currently constructing a carport roof with volunteer labor. The side walls of the carport are supported by 6x6 posts on the end and 4x4 posts in between. A girder beam is running between all of them (the 6x6 is notched out to hold it and the 4x4s have a bracket attached to hold the beam in place). Today we discovered, however, that the posts are about 2' short of what we needed them to be due to the gable roof of the trailer. We are trying to come up with some solutions to extend the height of the posts so that we do not have to completely scratch all of our work. Any suggestions?? The only one we have come up with is a knee wall but we are afraid of the kick out factor. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Aileen
