Hi all

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts, ideas or general info on builders who do custom mobile homes.

I have recently found two styles that I really like and well just can't decide btwn the two. I was over at mystops.com ( seems like nobody has been there for around two months now) and saw a man who put two double wides together and that got me to thinking. I worked for most of the afternoon trying to come up with a workable plan to mend those two plans together and have finally come up with a look that I really love and doesn't really require much in the way of tearing down walls.

One of the plans is an L shape 28' x 64' and the other is a your basic 32' x 76 double wide. I worked it where the 32 x 76 fits right into the inlet of the L shape creating a larger L shaped home. There are only two rooms that would connect to each other no other walls need be removed.

Both of these homes are made by the same company do you all think they would be willing to do the combination or would I have to go to a company that does custom work. It's not really custom considering I just want to put the two together. There basic layout is all still the same.

Each home cost $82,995 would it be cheaper to do a custom job.

Thoughts? Suggestions? all are welcome

I doubt if the manufacturer will do it. I would only do this if I could find a contractor experienced in this. I have seen more than my share of botched attempts at joining two homes together. They will make your life absolutely miserable if not done correctly, so dont skimp on this part. You also need to find out if is legal to do in your county. I cannot give recommendations as who to call or contact, as this would certainly have to be someone in your area. You also need to sit down and do the math. Your going to be approaching 200 grand after this is all said and done, so you need to determine if purchasing a stick built would be more cost effective. Tom

Look into modulars, you may need to look at ones for commercial use, as they will have a more flexible build plan than ones for residential use.

A business not too far from me just had an L shaped modular put in.

Just wanted you to know that mystops.com is only a referenced index of the topics posted in this forum. Instead of reading each topic, or searching for keywords, I created a leg from mystops to categorize the posts a bit. I know that considering building codes in most juristictions you would also be required to disable all the kitchen appliances so that you "only have one house". modular builders can an generally will build what ever you like with all the benefits of a modular vs.stick built. ive seen everything from dentist offices to hotels built from modular companies, we specialize in doing site electrical work for modular and manufactured buildings. here in oregon there is a company called Modern Building Systems. who build some cool stuff as well as some very basic moble offices.
