Carport Roof

I had an enclosed carport added to my home about 10 years ago. Recently, a man I hired was cleaning out the gutters and enlarging the drains and he said that I have no "Snow beams" and that I should have them. He wants to put them in for about $400. I never heard of them and don't know if I really need them. I have gotten along fine to date without them. I really can't afford to do this at this time but of course I will if it is necessary. I live in Michigan, so we do have snow. Please advise. Thank you.

It sounds to me like the guy is trying to talk you into something you dont need. If you have not had problems for 10 years, I dont see why you should bother now. You can always ask another contractor to look at it to set your mind at ease. Tom

If you had this installed new by a licensed contractor then I would think that person would have pulled a permit and the had his work inspected by the local building inspector. If this is the case, it must be fine. If not, I would also agree that in 10 years of standing, it must be okay, but asking a few local "licensed" contractors would be my next step.
