Hello,

I used the blue painters tape and taped my windows and door trim. When I went to peel the tape it peeled the finish off the trim. I have a double wide home with the plastic trim that looks like wood. Is there any way I can make the finish look the same. The finish peeled only in spots. The trim is a typical trailer house trim that is plastic (what is the proper terminolgy?) and looks like wood. The blue painters tape peeled off easy but took parts of the finish off in spots. Do you have any suggestions for me?

I have found the longer you let blue painters tape set, the more likely you are to peel the finish from trim.

When you ask about proper terminology on what your trim is composed of, there are many types of plastics being used in manufactured homes.
One alternative, plastic-composite trim, is manufactured from a combination of recycled wood fiber and plastic. A variety of plastics can be used, such as high-density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and styrene.

I'm not aware of any stain on the market that will dye into plastic, but hopefully someone here will have some suggestions.

If possible, contact the factory that built your home, and find out if they still use this product and talk to them about purchase options. Most manufacturers will not sell to the public, but sell to one of there dealers who you can then purchase from.


It seems in this industry, the hardest materials to replace have always been interior trim, and wall panels with patterns.

I honestly do not know what type of covering is on them either. I have the same wood grain in mine and the animals have scratched the sills, looking out the windows. The luck we have had with the walls, which are vinyl covered is to clean, prime, then paint. I dont know how effective that would be for the trim, as paint is real sensitive to different plastic compounds. It adheres to some and sluffs off others. May have to experiment on a back room one of these days to see how it works. Tom
