My wife and I just bought our first mobile home. The roof is sagging and estimates from a couple contractors believe a new roof is in order. The home is a 1969 Casitas. We want to sheet rock, place crown molding, put in new floors and cabinets in the kitchen. My question is whether we might be able to fix the sagging by removing the tile cieling and sistering up the rafters or is it better in this home to simply put on the roof? Also, is it oaky to do all the other remodeling and then do the roof at a later date? We have access to all the remodel material but not hte roofing. THat's why we are considering the delay. Also does anyone know where a desc ription of a mobile home roof construction might be on the net? Any help is appreciated.

sagging roof in 69 mobile home
Re: sagging roof in 69 mobile home
Since this is a pre hud home(1976) construction could be just about any configuration. You have the correct idea about opening up the ceiling to see whats going on. Repair will be fairly self explainitory once you get it opened up.
I want to caution you about sheetrocking a pre hud home. The wall of your home are very thin. I would not do this without some support blocking under the walls. Same goes for the roof, weight must be a consideration. Before doing any floor or wall work, the home must be level. Tom
