roof/shingle problems -Sterling home

Post by missy » Mon Mar 29, 2004 9:59 am

I purchased a Sterling Manufactured Home 3 years ago (it was purchased new in 1989). Now my dining room ceiling in falling in. Upon inspection I found the shingles had been stapled down from the top layer. Obviously letting water get right to the plywood and now my roof is caving in. I am trying to find the manufacturer or find out information like what type of shingles were used. The shingles are also shriveled up and falling apart. I just wanted to find out if there was any warranty on them. Can anyone help?

On the cross referenced MH listings I found three possible manufactures of Sterling:

Golden West Homes
Ritz-Craft Corp
Silver Imperial Homes

If you could determine the model, it would be helpful. You can also look for the id tag for the home, sometimes located on a closet wall or under a sink, etc. It may be helpful. Do an internet search for the companies I listed for more info.

I am not at all sure the warranty would be transferable, but its worth a shot to do some research. Tom

Missy,

When you say stapled down from the top layer, are you saying the installed the shingles from the ridge and worked down until they come to the outside edge of the home, or that you can visibly see the staples showing here and there on the shingles? No matter who warrantys the shingles for the term of the shingle life, they have to be installed correctly or you will have a hard time with the manufacturer of the shingles trying to get them to correct the problem
