My 1972 double-wide mobile had major roof leaks in the past. I had the leaks repaired. The ceiling panels are stained and 2 or 3 major warp (sags). I want to improve the looks but cost is a problem so need to be creative.
A friend suggested nailing on some lightweight wood strips to the ceiling, then nailing lightweight enxpensive wall panelling onto that, and then painting. Would this work or be too much wieght to hold? I don't know that there's much wood up there to nail to.
My second is using large sheets of styrofoam. Could I glue or somehow tack styrofoam onto the existing ceiling (then paint)? Any thoughts, ideas, knowledge shared is appreciated. thank you.

There is a good possibility that there is wet moldy insulation still up in the ceiling. At this point you really should give consideration to opening up the ceiling to remove and replace it. Then you would have to do some other ceiling mod to replace it. It will cost extra cash, so Im not sure how to advise you. Tom

Thanks Tom! You know, it's been one year since the roof was repaired and that white stuff sprayed on it. I live in a hot dry windy area, high desert. Summers are long and hot, one year reached 130 degrees. Average is 120. To be honest, I'm not even sure if this home has any insulation between roof and ceiling. I did appreciate your suggestion and will give this some thought. Ugh, sure sounds like a job. lol. Thaks again!

I don't know of any fire proof strofoam, some are fire retardent. I wouldn't use styrofoam of any kind that would be exposed.

If this is only for cosmetic purposes, perhaps a cheap alternative would be to drape a pretty fabric across the ceiling that would appear like a giant pillow. Just a thought.
