For the past two weeks, we've been having a leak in the master bathroom, near the shower stall. The water seems to be seeping out from under the wall near the stall, and not coming from the shower itself. The wall is damp; I've removed the baseboard, and there's damage and mildew. I've looked underneath the home, and all the pipes seem to be fine, but this white, boxlike "thing" that is taped to the underside of the house is loose, near where the leak is coming from. I touched it, and it had about a quart of water in it. The liquid was somewhat soapy. What is the this white thing, and how could it be related to the leak? I would really appreciate help with this.

THE WHITE "BOX LIKE THING" YOU MENTION IS MOST LIKELY THE ACCESS TO YOUR SHOWER TRAP & DRAIN.

IF THE LEAK ONLY OCCURS WHEN YOU USE THE SHOWER AND THE WATER APPEARS TO BE SOAPY. THE LEAK IS MOST LIKELY THE DRAIN ITSELF. REMOVE THE ACCESS PANEL AND RUN THE FAUCET SLOW LOOK
UP IN THE BELLY PAN (WITH A FLASHLIGHT IF NEC) AND TRY TO PINPOINT
THE LEAK. COULD JUST BE LOOSE PLUMBING CONNECTIONS.

BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH ALL THIS INSPECT THE SHOWER PAN REAL
GOOD FOR HAIRLINE CRACKS. PUSH DOWN ON THE PAN WITH YOUR HAND IN ALL AREAS AS SOMETIMES THESE CRACKS ARE NOT VISIBLE UNTIL THERE IS WEIGHT APPLIED TO OPEN THEM UP.
