Rain Seepage

Post by I Teig » Thu Mar 04, 2004 8:05 pm

We received heavy rains all day today in the Midwest. Our 2 year old home has sustained water leakage on the ceiling of the southside of the home and also to a couple of our walls. Would this be covered by insurance? How extensive would the repairs be? Would we as homeowners be able to take care of this ourselves without a pro?

First thing: You need to find out what is actually leaking, or causing the leaks. It could be the roof, could be coming in around a vent. On the wall leaks, is it up high or down low, what kind of siding do you have, could it be leaking at a siding seam?

Next: What will your insurance cover? Only your insurance agent can tell you exactly what is covered by your policy. Policies vary from company to company and area to area, so you'll have to call your agent to verify.

Next: Only someone looking at the problem and understanding the repairs will be able to tell you how extensive the repairs will be. Asking if you as homeowners are capable of doing the job without a pro is only something you can answer, without knowing your skill level its not possible for us to give you the answer to that part of your question. Sorry

It would be helpful to us if you and anyone else posting questions would give as much information as humanly possible. There are usually many possible answers to simple questions, the more info you provide, the more direct our answer will be.

Good Luck
