Leveling Bumps

Post by Richard » Tue Jan 27, 2004 7:00 am

Sometimes when I level used homes there is a spot where the frame is bent up a small amount. It is normally just one or two piers, but all efforts to level that spot move the rest of the home out of level. My question is should I move my wedges to make the pier tight, or do I leave a gap, hoping that the home will settle into level over time?

how much diffrence are we talking? 1/2 inch or less? all you can do is wedge it tight...inspections will not let you leave it loose....if its worse than that, talk to your customer aand explain the problem, the only way to get it back to level if the chassis is bent, is to cut the chassis, let it drop into level and then weld a plate over the cut on both sides...if your customer wants to go that far...

that would be the best way, and richard since you have the problems caused by a bent frame i am sure you use frame savers and roll your doubles together instaed of throwing them with jacks.
