Stripping the vinyl wall coating

Post by Bill » Thu Jan 22, 2004 8:29 am

Anyone know if there is a product that can be applied to wallboard after stripping off the wallpaper that will restore the walls to a paintable condition (short of putting a thin coat of mud on the entire wall area)?

Not that Im aware of. You can paint if you clean it well and prime first. You can also texture. There is a video on texturing available at www.mobilehomerepair.com Click on the Books and Parts Link. Tom

i was told that zinsser makes products that will work on the vinyl walls. you can visit their website at: www.zinsser.com -- try "vinyl walls" in the search field. i have been told which product will work, but i can't remember now. might be the "bull's eye 1-2-3". maybe someone else will have used their products and comment.

Thanks for that link, I'll check it out. I'd really like to peel off the vinyl rather than paint over it. It's been painted over once, and it doesn't look very good (partly because they used semi-gloss paint). I may also check into textured, although I'm not famillar with that. - Bill
