frozen sewer lines

Post by Mary » Tue Jan 13, 2004 10:37 pm

I bought a new double wide and it is only 3 yrs old. Along with other numerous problems is that my sewer lines freeze, and the stool backs up in the tub and shower. I have spent so much on people to thaw it out, and contacted the mobile home people where I bought it and asked them to install according to code and so this does not happen, they came out last fall and told me they fixed it, but same problem is now happening. I called again, and their answer is-- no more warrenty. Go to you know where! Also woke up to 20 brown spots on the ceiling in my kitchen, 6 in one bath, 5 in another, 4 in my bedroom. They say shingles are fine and it must be to much humidity in my place. I know this is not true. I have even installed humidity gauges that say normal. Has anyone have any insight they can give me. It took me till last fall to get half the things done that should have been done the first few months. Thank you for any help or suggestions you can give me.

Mary, at this point, your not going to get any help from the dealer, unless you can prove the problems were occuring during the warranty. The sewer pipe probably should be taken care of by them, but at this point, if they didnt fix it properly the first time, they probably are clueless anyway.

As for the roof, if they are saying its humidity, which is probably boloney, what your going to have to do is put them on notice that your going to have an independent repairman look at it and if it proves to be a roofing problem, they are going to pay for it. Unfortunately, some dealers only respond to threats and lawsuits. Tom

Thank you for the reply, Tom. I think too, that the only recourse is to find a good lawyer, after I find an inspector. After waiting three years you would think it would be fixed better than this.

Frozen Sewer Lines

Mary,

Install a heat tape on the line. I had frozen drain lines two weeks ago from the sub-zero arctic express that visited Western New York, and the heat tape is the only thing that has made a lasting difference and kept things moving.

Peggy

mary, contact the state authorities having jurisdiction in your state ,call for an inspection. i know in ga sc a sewer slope problem would most times be caught at the local inspection level. does the puipe have any slope to it? also go up on roof and see if ther are any nail holes or staples from the removal of the shipping plastic that was removed from home. this will cause leaks , if you find this remove them and tar over or make them them do it.
