I currently live in a Palm Harbor 2002 Double-wide, in a park. I have been noticing in various places around the house that where the ceiling and walls join there are cracks forming. Is this normal? We have been living here for just over a year now, and have already called the repair guy in to "fix" some cracks that I had noticed soon after we moved in. (All he did was put some spackling over the crack and told me to repaint it) Is this all we need to do to the other cracks that I am noticing? Also, I'm noticing some creaking in the floors in 2 different spots, they are major problems..just noticable. Is this something we could fix on our own also? We are not on a slab, so I'm sure a lot of this is from the house settling, but I just wanted to know if I should bother calling the service guys on it or just try to fix it ourselves.
Thanks for your help
Ceiling cracks
Re: Ceiling cracks
On if the cracks would be considered normal. Its a tough call. I see of lot of complaints from new DW owners about cracks, so it seems to be a normal occurance. However, keep a watch and if they get worse, personally I would be concerned on checking the level of the home. But, thats just me. If you have the usual popcorned ceiling we see in most homes, they make kits you can by for the repair. Painting will be required after the fix.
To he honest, to some extent all MH floors squeek. Mine do. There are ways to fix, but again In my opinion not worth the labor or expense to do. Its up to you.

Re: Ceiling cracks
There are usually bolts underneath the home (in the frame) that tend to work loose. These are on the "outrigger" part of the frame. Try tightening these and see if it will stop the squeak. It's an easy fix if you are willing to crawl under your house a bit. This may not cure all the sqeaks, but it is a place to start.
Re: Ceiling cracks
the ceiling cracks you are experiencing, are due to the settling of your home; in most cases the cracks were already there when the home was set the first time "whether on the sales lot or your lot" and has been patched before, (look closely at the cracks) if this is NOT the case i would strongly recommend you have your home releveled (by a reputable service) using a water level....as for your floors, a squeek can be very annoying..most squeeks come from a nail or staple that has missed the floor joist during construction...but if the squeek has started in a bathroom or kitchen...have someone check it...it could be due to moisture at some point
Re: Ceiling cracks
I had a few of these - our setup crew went over them. We have a couple new ones with a heavy snowfall. I will wait till the snow is gone, then look, paint over, fill if needed. As to the floor squeak, we have one good one that I will try to get from below. The old trick in stick-builts was to shoot a screw through the carpet and pad. Here, I need to find a stud - my studfinder doesn't seem to detect them!
Only one complaint with my house - mfrs, are you listening? - Thicker floor!!!
