We are looking at a 1997 16 by 80 Dutch manufactured home tp purchase.
The ceilings are the popcorn type textured ceiling.
All the rooms except the bathrooms have ceiling fans.
There is some dust on the ceilings around the area of the fans.
Otherwise the ceilings look new.
Any tips on removing this dust would be appreciated.
The owner said they tried a long handled duster which did take some dust off but also took off small pieces of the textured ceiling.
It is not noticeable at all (where they tried to dust and knocked off some of the texture) but I would like to avoid doing this if possible.

Using a sponge with a very light touch(Use a Dabbing method) and some non abrasive cleaner is about all you can do. There is no way to prevent losing a bit of the popcorn texture. Wanna have fun, wait till the wife wants it painted. Now thats a pain. Alot of folks scrape it completely off before repainting. Tom

I think I'd try a shop vac with a soft brush attachment.
I''ve also got a Dutch, and I just resprayed the entire ceiling (it was WAY beyond cleaning).

Thanks for the replies. I will give them a try ( if we purchase the Dutch which I am pretty sure we are going to) . By the way Bill you say you have a Dutch home ? What do you think of it?

The popcorn texture is going to flake no matter what you do with it....just use a vacuum with an upholstery attachment and use a light touch when vacuuming the area. The vacuum will also suck up the loose popcorns before they hit you in the face. To prevent this problem in the first place, keep the blades of the ceiling fan clean.......you can't get those dust patterns blown on the ceiling unless there is dust to be blown off the blades.

Hate the textured ceilings! I used our new shop vac with a wide floor attachment and gently, slowly vacuumed the whole house. It worked great and really brightened up the whole ceiling. It also worked great on the walls which get dustier than I thought! Good luck
