We have pulled up the carpet & padding in our living room and plan to put down self adhesive vinyl tile this weekend. Do we need to do any prep to the osb underneath it, or do we just lay the tile flat out on it?

Any dirt, protruding nails or staples, wood splinters, etc. on the OSB etc will eventually wear thru the vinyl and put holes in it.You must have a smooth ,clean surface to apply the vinyl. The quality and general life span of those vinyl squares isn't all the great so good prep work on the floor is crucial before installation.Pull all the staples from the carpet pad out with pliers as a starter.Next clean all remenets of pad up and sweep and vacumn the floor. If you can run your bare hand across the wood without fear of cutting or putting splinters in your ready.

There is also a self leveling paint like substance that can be put down to get rid of any imperfections. You must read the recommended subfloor material for the tile your putting down. As stated above prep work is an absolute must. Tom

Prep work is not a party lemme tell ya, and it doesn't help that I have to turn around and do it again this weekend in my den.

I'm definitely not a fan of self-stick tiles. In time dirt builds-up in the cracks and they tend to move. Way better off to put down a full sheet of vinyl.
