Mold on roof

We have a 2002 Redman home. We have had heavy rains in our area (Fl) and our roof has started getting green mold on part of it where a tree is nearby. It is supposed to be fiberglass shingles. What can we use to clean off the roof and is there anything we can put on it to hinder the mold growth? Thank you. Irene

You can spray a medium-strength bleach solution on it, let that sit a while, then rinse it off. To prevent future occurrences, there are products such as Moss-Kil which contain zinc in a liquid form. Finally, you can install zinc strips on the peak of your roof, which will slowly dissolve in rain. This doesn't always work really well.
The growth is resulting from the tree shading the roof. You could trim the tree back, as well.

Mac, Thanks so much. We will give the bleach a try and look for the Moss-Kil. The tree is really too big to trim right now, (money). Thanks again. Irene
