The Manufactured Housing Forums

Are there any special considerations when installing new windows in a manufactured home? One end of my house, the end that faces the drive way, has no windows.
I have considered contacting someone about having a window installed on this wall, but I wasn't sure if any contractor could do it, or if I need someone who specializes in manufactured homes.
I have attempted to find a handyman who is familiar with manufactured homes, but so far have not found anyone in my area. I live in Chattanooga, TN, if anyone knows of someone, please let me know.
I have several projects that I would like to complete over the next couple of years, and would feel much better knowing I had an individual experienced with manufactured homes.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sure - you can install windows in the front of your home. There may be a few problems incountered, but none SHOULD be unsurmountable. The contractor will have to "box in" a PROPER rough opening (complete with cripples, header and all), then install the windows, siding, interior wall, trim and finish. If there are any electric wires that are (for some reason) in the way, these will have to be re-routed. Make sure the window is properly installed (to manufacterer's specs) to avoid warranty issues. To me - it is more important that this contractor be experienced in framing and WINDOW INSTALLATION, than Mobile Homes. There are PLENTY of contractors who have installed windows for years, but have never learned HOW to do it PROPERLY. I would attempt to find an experienced window installer for this project. Good Luck!
