The roofer wants to install a ridge vent system. Is this ok for mfg homes? Is it necessary?

If you don't know these roof replacement basics before you sign with a contractor, you will pay more and wait longer for your job start.

they usually have can vents. venting is necessary for heat and moisture extraction. the architect and engineer who designed the home already considered this. ridge vent is another way to do the same job. One or the other is needed, but not both! if you change what the engineer did, understand his intent. how much venting has already been determined by that engineer. installing more, or less venting is not optimum. Trust the engineer over the contractor, or at least aim for similar total vent area! http://journeyman-construction.net

Before you hire a contractor please make sure to check if they have any state violations or serious bad reviews online. The easiest way to to do it is through www.con-tractors.com. You can check by their name, license or phone number. The site gathers recent state violations and bad reviews of contractors to help you decide who to hire. Contractors are good hard working folks but there are a few bad ones too and some are real cons. The wrong contractor can really be a costly headache for you.
