winter plumbing

Post by cantdog » Tue Jan 05, 2016 6:39 am

Hi all,

I just registered today so I'm sure this topic has already been discussed, so please humor me or send me the link to previous threads.

I bought a mobile home last summer, a 1987 Hampshire 14x66, so I have no winter experience. Last night was the first single digit temps. I have heat tape and pipe insulation from the water main to the water heater. The rest of the system is covered by the Pink Panther insulation under the floor boards.

My programmable thermostat is set for 69 and 65, daytime.

My neighbors said to turn all the faucets on just a drizzle with both the hot and cold valves to protect against lines freezing. Do people on this forum do that? How low should the outside temps be before doing that? I have no idea how well protected I am.

I did this last night, but I'm thinking I'm using a lot of the available hot water because the water heater was running this morning.
