I would stay away from laminate in a kitchen. You can put ceramic tile (which can handle water, spills, and moisture just fine), directly over your vinyl (if the vinyl is glued down and it's too difficult to pull up), with the more expensive, but flexible tile cement. I did it myself and it turned out real nice. I bought an inexpensive wet saw at home depot and really inexpensive tile at a wholesale tile place. It is a lot more work though. Just my advice from experience of laminate in my kitchen. I had a dishwasher leak and it ruined my laminate. After I installed the ceramic I had a pipe burst and my tile held up without a trace of any water damage. Good luck!

I was told that tile was to heavy for a manufactured house? Is that true. I have asthma and want to pull carpet up from the living room and lay tile. The press on tile from homedepot was a challenge for me if left up in some corners. Can you give me some advice on what I can do?
