Wiring diagram for 2000 Indies House

Post by navaria » Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:08 am

We just moved in to (renting) a 2000 Indies 870 3x2 house. There is no electricity to the master bedroom or some of the outlets in the living room/entryway. I've tried researching both the company and the distributor, and both are out of business. We've found the junction box panel in one of the bedroom closets, complete with 3 plugs. All of them have been replaced. Is there another junction box someplace we're missing? Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a wiring diagram for this model so we can try to find the source of the problem? Any help at all would be appreciated. The landlords have someone working on it, but he's the one who asked me to try and find something online.

First I would have little confidence in this repairman. You or he WILL not find a wire diagram of a home this old.
Good electricians would know the power box is directly up from where the wires enter the house. From there they would start troubleshooting the problem.
If this fellow continues to flounder, call your landlord and express your concerns and ask him to send a better qualified electrical repairman.

We've found one junction box. The wires are covered by the insulation under the house. We were hoping to find a diagram so he didn't have to pull it all loose to follow the wires to find another junction box or the source of the problem. It's possibly a broken ground wire in that circuit. When he back feeds the electricity, everything works. If there is a second junction box, it's possible a ground wire came loose there and all it needs is reconnected. Otherwise, it sounds like the entire back quarter (everything on that particular circuit) will need to be rewired :(

The box you found sounds like the crossover junction box of a multisection home. This is where the electricity goes from one side to the other. Straight up from where the wires enter the house WILL be the main box. It will have a main breaker usually 100 amp (200 on all electric homes and 2 rows of smaller breakers below. This is where troubleshooting usually begins. It is not unusual for one of these breakers to be bad. Electricians have a tool to test the breakers.
Most often there is only 1 crossover wire junction box. Again I would be very concerned if the maintenance man could not find the main box.
