I own a 14 x 72 Burlington (1982) and would like to put it on a full basement foundation for extra space and current shifting concerns. Any advise is appreciated. I have contacted a General Contractor and they have never done something like this on a mobile but did give me a quote. They found a contractor to lift the mobile while the work is being done. They will disconnect and reconnect all services, put an indoor stairway and a bulkhead in and 4 cellar windows. Are there any experienced survivors of this type of undertaking?!

I am a bit nervous. Were there any structural issues? Do singlewides need extra support? Has anyone had any mold/water problems when heavy rains came? I live in New Hampshire and winters can be extreme; lately rains have been heavy too. I am looking for some sound advice and comfort. Please.
Thanks
Carol

Every state in the country requires manufactured home installers to be licensed. You would do best to find a licensed installer with experience installing over a basement. This is not a job for inexperienced contractors. If your main concern is the home's settling... re-leveling one time in most parts of New England will end that problem for ever.

I've had the place releveled 3 times in 15 years and we noticed that the slab it is on is cracked in places, etc. So to lift the mobile and pour a new slab/crawl space would be $21000, adding a full basement was quoted at $37000.
He is a licensed general contractor. Has done basements but not under mobile homes.
How would I go about finding someone that does this?
Thanks

Under Federal pressure ALL states now require a licensed manufactured home set contractor to get all permits that involve set up and re-connection of utilities. Unless your guy can find a licensed set contractor to get his permits, he will NOT be able to. Seldom will a licensed set contractor just pull permits because they become FULLY responsible for the whole job. To cover that liability most have insurance that would BAN him from just pulling permits for a fee without actually doing the work. You may well find a licensed contractor who may subcontract some of the work to your original guy and supervise the work..Check with your local building inspector for a list of approved contractors in your area..
