storm door repair

Post by MaryM » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:27 pm

My storm door has begun scrapping the porch. It appears that some washers or gromets have worn away at the hing causing the door to sit lower in the frame. I tried removing the screws to allow me to remove the doorhing and add washers but it is still connected to the door frame. I'm afraid to force it away from the frame so am wondering if these doors hinges can be repaired of if I have to replace the door. Thanks.

Mary,

either the hinges need to be replaced and/or the door frame along the side of the hinges need to be replaced. it may be that if the door is considerably old or has seen its better days it may be time to replace the door and prep the whole door jam with new wood all around. it will solve the problem look good and add security to the home. hope that helps.

I have a Giles that is 3 years old and the wind blew the storm door open and broke in to a million pieces. That was april 4, now 6-28- two doors bought and returned, 3 different contractors looked at it and first two told me to buy the storm doors My home owners said it was less than my deductible. One contractor said i would have to buy storm door and the door itself toghether. to a total of 760. I is just a regular full glass. and I cant get any thing out of the dealer who sold the homes. or local salvege for home and mobile homes. i DONT UNDERSTAND ALL THE PROBLEMS. WITH THIS DOOR. HELP!!!!

If the frame that held the glass is in good condition phone a local glass service and let them come out and replace the broken glass.

If the screen door is mangled beyond use visit Complete Mobile Home Supply Click on Doors & Windows on the top menu. On the next page click on the link near the top that says "Storm Doors".

You can purchase a new mobile home storm door online along with any hardware you may need. (handles, hinges, screens, closer, etc) You will find their prices considerably less than the price you were quoted. They ship directly to your house, eliminating the middle man mark-up.

Removing the old door and installing the new one is not a difficult task see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnKazBAJxdE
