I am redoing bath and have question as to placement of the shower head. Can its supply tube and it pass through the tub surround piece, or must it run through drywall only above the edge of the tub surround? The old installation was above the surround, but for some reason seems to be cleaner to me and safer to run through drywall and into the surround as leaks would simply run down the surround vs. run down about 3 inches of drywall before hitting the top of the surround.
Thoughts?

Re: New Shower Head Location
We have done this both ways... often the surround is too tall to bring the plumbing out above it. There is no problem in cutting a hole and running thru the surround. Keep the hole as small as possible and be sure to glue the edges tight. Be sure to place an escutcheon around the shower arm that protrudes through the wall to prevent water from getting behind the surround.
